10 Highest Paid NBA Player 2014-2015 Season

With Tax Day having come and gone, now might be as good a time as any to reflect on how much more money a superstar athlete earns in a season. According to salary figures compiled by HoopsHype.com, 23 NBA players made $15 million or more during the 2014-2015 season, with eight pulling down $20 million or more.
Typically, those are the massive salaries devoted to the NBA’s elite players, but many players are still millionaires even if they are riding the bench. Forbes estimated the average NBA player earned $4.9 million for the 2013-2014 season. Furthermore, thanks to the league’s new television deals, players could make even more on new contracts signed in 2016.
But just like every other American, NBA players must ante up to Uncle Sam.According to a sports business collaboration between USC Sports Business Institute Executive Director David Carter and USA Today Sports, NBA players on average pay roughly $1 million in federal taxes and the same goes for players in MLB and NFL. All told, the 3,000 or so players who make up the three biggest sports leagues in the country combined to pay $3 billion in federal taxes for 2013, according to tax experts.
Meanwhile, just because an NBA player is making gobs of money, it doesn’t necessarily translate into success on the court. Of the 10 players below who earned the most this season, four didn’t make the postseason, and three of those four missed the majority of the year with a debilitating injury.
Here's a look at the highest earners in the NBA this season.
10.Deron Williams, PG, Brooklyn Nets $19.8 million

Like his fellow Nets teammate Joe Johnson, Williams floundered this season with 13 points per game, by far his lowest scoring average since his rookie campaign 10 years ago. Together, Williams and Johnson account for more than $41 million of Brooklyn’s bloated $87.8 million pay roll this season. But it will drop next season to $86.5 million.
9.Kevin Durant, PF, Oklahoma City Thunder $19.9 million

Last year’s MVP and scoring champion had a very difficult injury-laden season. Durant appeared in only 27 games due to a nagging foot injury that eventually required season-ending surgery. The Thunder missed the postseason for the first time in five years without Durant, despite the best efforts of point guard Russell Westbrook, who should find himself on this list in the near future.
8.Chris Paul, PG, Los Angeles Clippers $20 million

One of the league’s elite point guards, Paul led the NBA in assists for the second straight year and fourth time overall in his 10 year career, while guiding the Clippers to the No. 3 seed in the overloaded Western Conference.

7.Derrick rose  , Chicago Bulls $20 million

6.Chris Bosh, PF, Miami Heat $20.6 million

Bosh also missed a ton of games, 38 to be exact, but that was due to a blood clot developing in his lungs. The potentially life threatening situation derailed an excellent season from Bosh, who was putting up 21.1 points and 7.0 rebounds a game for a Miami squad that was playoff-bound before he was hurt.
6.LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers $20.6 million

The best player in the league finds himself in the middle of the top 10. A four-time MVP, James is the first player on this list who can make a very easy case for why he makes so much. James leads the Cavs in points, assists, and steals and powered the team’s return to the postseason with 53-29 regular season mark.

5.Dwight Howard, C, Houston Rockets $21.4 million

The versatile big man and three-time Defensive Player of the Year missed half of this season with a knee injury, but when he did play, he contributed 15.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. But even with more than $20 million he still can’t improve his career free-throw percentage (57.3.)
4.Amare Stoudemire, PF, Dallas Mavericks $21.9 million

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Knicks, Stoudemire joined the Mavericks. Stoudemire’s best years are behind him, but he’s still one of the better reserve power forwards in the league. Albeit not one who’s worth paying nearly $22 million.
3.Carmelo Anthony, SF, New York Knicks $22.5 million

A $20 million-plus player for the second straight year, Anthony signed a four-year extension with the Knicks over the summer and missed 41 games due to a knee injury. The Knicks bottomed out to post the second-worst record in the NBA, 17-65, without Anthony.
2.Joe Johnson, SG, Brooklyn Nets $23.2 million

For a player who’s been traded three times and watched his scoring average plummet from 21 points to 14 points per game over the last five years, Johnson sure does eat up a ton of Brooklyn’s league-high salary cap. Despite his decline in production, Johnson is paid so well because of the six-year, $123 million contract extension he signed with the Atlanta Hawks in 2010. He’s scheduled to make $24.8 million next season.
1.Kobe Bryant, SG, Los Angeles Lakers $23.5 million

The future Hall of Famer actually took a big pay cut this season after making more than $30 million in salary alone. However, Bryant missed the final 47 games of the season with a shoulder injury, and had to watch his Lakers stumble to a 21-61 record this year.

Top 5 NBA Fights Of All-Time

5.Kobe Bryant vs. Chris Childs(Face Job)

Outside the Lakers fan base, who doesn't want to punch Kobe in the face? Kobe seems to have had altercations with everyone in the league. The New York Knicks' Chris Childs looked like Floyd Mayweather out there landing two punches and embarrassing Kobe in the process. Pause it at the :26 second mark and you'll see where Kobe started it. Then watch the fight and you'll see how Childs finished it. It was sweeeeeeeet!

Doug Christie vs. Rick Fox(Uppercut)

This fight got 'real.' This was the following season after the NBA cheated the Sacramento Kings out of the Western Conference championship with its crooked officiating and awarding it to the Lakers in seven games. The Kings' Doug Christie definitely had beef with the Lakers' Rick Fox. It boiled over in a pre-season game where things got feisty with an elbow from Fox followed by an uppercut from Christie. Then when both players got ejected, they fought in the tunnel. It got so crazy that Christie's wife got involved in the fight, showing off fighting skills you see outside clubs every weekend from drunk women in broken heels.

3.Doc Rivers vs. Kevin Johnson(Sucker Punch to K.J)

Watch Mayor Kevin Johnson lower the boom on Doc Rivers. This was so crazy, especially when you consider that all of the animosity happened before halftime. What makes this fight even more wild is that Greg Anthony comes off the bench in street clothes and sucker punches KJ. Classic triple threat match was later booked but scraped by Vince McM..err David Stern.

2.Detroit Pistons' "Bad Boys" vs. EVERYONE

The Bad Boys won two titles for Motown but they were the dirtiest team of all time. The Pistons' Bill Laimbeer was the worst of the bunch. He alone got into fights with Robert Parish, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, etc. Frankly, there aren't enough hard fouls and punches to merit what Bill and company deserved. I will admit though, I miss this era of the NBA. Its better than the soft league that we currently see.

1.Dr. J vs. Larry Bird (Three Blows to the Face)

Not too often do you get to see two of the greatest players of all time get in a fight fight. The Sixers and Celtics absolutely hated each other back in the day and it boiled over in this game. At the tail end of this scuffle, Charles Barkley and Moses Malone have Larry Bird restrained while Dr. J gives the "hick from French Lick" three blows to the face. Four Hall of Famers, ladies and gentlemen. That has to be the most basketball talent ever involved in one fight.

Alleged Assault Victim Sues Oregon, Coach

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A woman who says she was sexually assaulted by three Oregonbasketball players has sued the university and head men's basketball coach Dana Altman.
The suit alleging negligence and civil rights violations was filed Thursday in federal court in Eugene.
"This is a very important case that needs to be litigated," said John Clune, an attorney representing the alleged victim. "It is time for athletic departments to stop trading the safety of women on campus for points on a scoreboard. The University of Oregon community deserves better and we hope this case will help in that effort."
The lawsuit alleges that Altman knew when he recruited Brandon Austin that the player had been suspended from Providence College due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Austin transferred from Providence to Oregon.
Altman, speaking after Oregon's 80-62 loss to No. 7 Arizona, said he had no comment on the lawsuit.
Austin, along with former Ducks players Damyean Dotson and Dominic Artis, were dismissed from the team in May 2014, and later suspended a minimum of four years from school, as a result of the allegations.
The suit also claims the university delayed taking disciplinary action against the players in order to help the basketball team.
The players told police the sex was consensual and prosecutors say there was insufficient evidence to file charges.
Interim president Scott Coltrane said the university disagrees with the allegations in the lawsuit and believes it acted lawfully.
"Today, the University of Oregon was notified about a lawsuit filed by a current student related to a reported incident of sexual misconduct. While unfortunate, this filing is not unanticipated," Coltrane said in a statement Thursday. "The university would prefer not to be in litigation with any student. We have been as respectful and supportive as possible of the student, including immediately implementing support services and appropriately honoring her choice of process, once hearing of her experience.
"The university disagrees with the allegations against it and believes that it acted in accordance with the law, including Title IX. This litigation in no way undermines the university's ongoing commitment to support the student inside and outside of the classroom."
Laura Fine Moro, a lawyer who has represented Austin, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Clune also represents the woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault in 2012. That woman sued FSU on Wednesday, alleging it didn't protect her Title IX rights.

Top 3 Most Valuable Basketball Cards

3) Oscar Robertson 1961 Fleer PSA10 $25.800

The only man to average a triple-double for an entire season! Legendary Hall of Fame guard Robertson is depicted on the Cincinnati Royals card from Fleer. Like Jordan, Russell, Mikan and Chamberlain also on this list, Robertson ranks among the Top 50 NBA All-Time Stars. This card's value stems from the tried and true formula star player in absolute mint condition plus widely collected set equals astounding price.
2) Michael Jordan รข€“ 1986 Fleer BVG 10 $82,000

Nothing is left to say about the man on the card. Arguably the greatest player to ever take the court. The cross-appeal of Jordan is tremendous and add in foreign collectors and you have an amazingly sought after card. This Fleer issue is exceptionally rare in the absolute top tier condition. It is amazing that more perfect 10s do not surface since it was widely available and only 25 years old, but they simply do not. PSA/SGC rival Beckett Vintage Grading grades this one and they are a major party on the grading circuit. It will be interesting to see how much closer the top grade Jordan cards approach Mikan in the next 50 years. It is unusual for this Chicago Bulls legend to take a back seat to anyone, but he remains firmly planted at number two. Fair warning, like the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, this card is a favorite target for counterfeiters. Unless you are an expert, buying a third party graded issue is strongly recommended.

1) George Mikan -- 1948 Bowman PSA 10 $218,500

Without a doubt, this is the Holy Grail of the basketball card world. The color 1948 Bowman set would be their only basketball issue and the only basketball set to reach mainstream collectors until 1957 when Topps issued their first set. Bespectacled gentle giant Mikan was a truly pioneering legend of the game. This Hall of Fame player finds his way onto list after list of NBA All-Time Greats. This rookie card in absolute perfect condition fetched a near quarter million dollars at auction.
While the most expensive basketball cards are only a fraction of the prices commanded by theTop 10 Most Valuable Baseball Cards, many compare favorably to the Top 10 Most Valuable Football Cards and the Top 10 Most Valuable Hockey Cards and generally crush the Most Valuable Golf Cards! It is a proud collector that owns any of these gems. Graded cards are most in demand for those who buy basketball cards and sell basketball cards. So, if you are lucky enough to have one of these cards it might be worth the cost to have it graded. Graded basketball cards command strong prices and can far exceed the prices shown in Beckett basketball price guides. As basketball continues to rise in popularity and dominate the airwaves, expect prices for graded basketball cards to rise steadily.
